Welcome to the website for the Portsmouth Intensive Care Unit
We are one of the largest Intensive Care Units (ICU) in the UK, admitting around 1300 patients every year and providing a service for approaching one million people. Our new state of the art unit was built in 2009. It offers a purpose designed, high quality 24 bed intensive care unit. We have a large team (over 140 staff) of experienced doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, radiographers, pharmacists and other allied health professionals.

We have 14 intensive care consultants who are available 24 hours a day every day of the year.
We submit data to the Intensive Care National Audit and Research Centre (ICNARC). This includes our unit case mix, length of ICU and hospital stay, infection rates and mortality. Our department consistently has a lower standardised mortality ratio than other peer units with a similar case mix
It is available for both the public (including friends, relatives and patients) as well as health care professionals. It is offered to provide important information about our unit, staff and services as well educational resources for the staff that work here.
